MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 1/4 elliptic suspension radius arm bushes
Has anyone got experience of poly bushes from Autobush Thanks Les |
Les Robinson |
I think Cedric mentioned them recently and others have used them in the past, no knowledge myself of these - or much else really. |

I found polybushes in that location made the suspension noisier. The rubber ones were quieter. I didn't really notice any difference in handling. Of course if your using the car for completion then that is a different matter!! |

Hi,
As said Nigel, I bought and installed polyurethane bushes from Autobush for the rear suspension on my midget (1275 from 1972). They came within few days, with some "grease" to put in them before fitting. My experience with Spridget is pretty low, and I have them fitted on the car since 500miles only, so can't really give a precise feedback... I would say "so far so good" : not noisy, not obvious difference in steering/ride. They are a lot of company providing polyurethane bushes : Polybush, Autobush, all the classic cars suppliers (sourcing from ?),... I chose this one because I read good reviews, and they are good price :) |

The standard bush is rubber encased in a steel sleeve which is subsequently pressed into the radius arm. However, the Auto bush has no steel sleeve, does this matter? Les |

I have 1/2 elliptic, so can't say for 1/4... Better to wait for Guy, Dave, or any other :) |

Les, if the standard is with steel sleeve then that'd be for a reason I'd have thought. I'd contact Autobush and check with them in case their catalogue or database has an error - or see what they say about the need or lack of the outer sleeve. |
Nigel Atkins |
The standard ones were Metalastic bushes and so steel inner and outer sleeve with rubber bonded in. As they were NLA from the local dealer I asked the old parts guy if he had anything close and he came back with TR6 inner wishbone bushes that have no outer sleeve, I passed by the local engineering supplier on the way home and bought the necessary tubing to make some new radius arm and never a problem with the bushes pushed into the end tubes just like in the TR6 which takes side loads. I can't see the Autobush ones being an issue. |

I recall the Metalastic bushes had teeth that gripped to stop rotation otherwise it would just be a rubber bush. Make sure the replacements don't have plain ends. Rob |
