MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 1-7/8 socket to borrow...
I need to torque up my new hub nuts (could be painful!) but i dont want to fork out for a 1-7/8" socket. I have had offers to borrow if i collect, but would anyone lend one to me and let me cover postage? |

Rob - If nothing else, you can use a 1-7/8" ring spanner. I bought one years ago at a discount tool store, and it's worked fine. It was a lot cheaper than a big socket and the requisite ratchet handle, and the offset is just enough to allow it to clear the arch. Cheers, -:G:- |

Rob, You might just want to count the number of flats on that hub nut before you spend any money. David "I can count 8 on mine" Lieb |

Mine has 6 David as does every Spridget I have owned. Perhaps yours has an MGA/MGB banjo fitted? I often use a spanner on mine too. |

you might consider a "flat wrench" (if thats correct) its a sheet metal wrench about an 1/8th to 1/4 " thick like you would use on welding equipment. Prop |

I've never seen more than six on any midget axle, although my B (banjo axle) does have eight! |

Perhaps I am confusing it with my old MGB I used to own. I know it isn't an MGB axle on it. Or maybe that is why I haven't broken an axle yet? Knock knock! David "not going to go out and disturb that seal to check!" Lieb |

Some years ago, I bought an interesting looking 'special tool', it turned out to be the Spridget hub nut socket with the pilot that goes down the axle tube to steady it. It has a six sided head and an eight sided head at the other end... I'll take a picture and post it here in a day or two... The other thing is that O/E rear hub nuts are one size and modern replacements are smaller on the head size..... Mark. |

Rob If you get desperate I do have my old box spanner (1.875 AF) which I first acquired about 40 years ago with my old Morris Minor. We passed by your way last weekend of course which of course makes you feel much better. John |
