MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 1098 venting options
I have a pretty consistent and annoying oil leak from my 1098cg's draft tube. Maybe it needs a rebuild but I'm thinking catch can in the interim. How's this sound for plumbing options? Rocker cover line to catch can T'd together with old draft tube (I'm considering taking that cover off, flipping 180 degrees to put the outlet elbow forward and facing up) Other line from catch can to SU's air filter housing to put some vacuum on it. Catch can's drain opening converted to a fitting to allow oil to drain back into the sump via the old fuel pump opening. Could pack the can with stainless steel wool to further trap and strain out oil. Thoughts? |

I don't think you'll be successful in draining back via the fuel pump opening as the engine will breathe from there also. |

did you check your oil separation canister for cloggs? |

no such thing as an oil separation canister on a 1098cg |

I know it will also breath through "return" line but I was thinking, if it were all downhill the oil is going to run back anyway. I can't imaging that after some oil separates in the can that it won't run back in despite some oily air going the other way above it. I'd just rig it up and see but I hate to cut up that down draft tube just to play. It looks like it's in two pieces but I doubt it can be separated too easily. |
