MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 1500 engine ID
I'm trying to decode the engine serial numbers for the 1500 midget engine. My 1979 engine is FP6944OUE I know FP is for the Midget and FM is for Spitfire. What is the "OUE" at the end? Also, can someone look up the year for FP20090UCF? I think it must be a 1975 or 76. Also, what does "UCF" signify? Both are US Fed with orange valve covers. Thanks. Lee |

Lee, my 76 engine is FP19787UE so your engine FP20090UCF must be later than that. As to what UE, UCF and OUE are for, beats me. If you obtain a certificate from the British Motor Heritage Trust, it will tell you if your engine is the original to the car. My engine is original to the car. |

It is probably 'UCE'. Which would make it, contrary to the valve cover color, a California spec engine. E is the home market suffix, UE is US/Canada Federal spec and UCE is California. The O in your '79 number is a zero and part of the engine serial number, not the suffix. |
