MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 1500 gearbox gaskets and stuff
Hi all I've got the triumph box out of the midget. And have a gasket and seal kit for it. I assume that to replace the middle gasket, un bolt the rear housing, knock the roll pin out of the selector shaft, and remove the rear drive flange, and the rear housing comes off? Is it as easy as that? Anything else to look out for? Mine has a scroll seal on the front not a proper oil seal. Thanks Matt |

Matt, is the gasket leaking? if not why replace it unless you're doing other work.
I've also got one of these with the scroll seal at the front, I kept getting a lot of oil leaking from somewhere (not the the scroll) and eventually I tracked it down to the breather, the clue was that oil was sitting on the top cover. I managed to resolve (not fix) this by welding a pipe to the breather and running it up to catch tank near the battery. I had a feeling the scroll seal was pressurising the box. I've got a couple of boxes but I couldn't find one with a proper seal. Bob |

I think thats all... speedo drive gear too? Scroll seal works OK, just don't park with the nose downhill if you can avoid it. |
