MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 1500 gearbox in a 1275???

OK, my last thread got hijacked somewhat!
I have been lead to believe that my engine is putting out too much torque for the standard 1275 gearbox and a 1500 one is much stronger.
The 5 speed conversion is far too expensive!
Has anyone any experience of putting a 1500 gearbox into a 1275? What would I need extra, are there any specialists etc etc..
thanks

I saw on ebay one year ago a manufacturer who has developped new alloy bellhousing or adaptation plate to plug a 1500 box (the Marina I think and not the Spitfire box) on a A serie.
It gives the advantage of a 1st synchro and a stronger box. But you loose the advantage of the 5th speed ratio for motorway.
The part developped was expensive, less than a 5 speed kit, but still expensive.

**UPDATE**
I've been advised someone called "Chris Groves" does a kit.
I've tried getting in touch with him but no luck so far.

What about the Marina box? IIRC this was a single-rail box for the A+ engine; has anyone fitted one of these to their '1275'?

Chris Groves does a kit - a few of the Class A cars now run a version with a dog kit. His number is on the midget challenge website somewhere, under one of the discussion forums. Much stronger.

The Marina box is a 1500 Midget box with a longer input shaft that hangs on the 1.3 Marina/Ital by virtue of a massive cast iron bellhousing.

Dog engagement is bound to be strong but I bet it costs more than a 5-speed conversion!

You also have to consider that a lot of 1500 Midgets and Spitfires are converting to Ford 5 speeds.

Lots of stuff in the archive on this.

I did my original Type 9 conversion at an all in cost of £220. But that was some years ago, involved aquiring a very cheap scrapyard box and only buying the really essential components that I couldn't make myself.
