MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 1500 Speedo Under Reading???
My 1978 1500 midget speedo seems to under read the gear box is not the original,does anyone know what size of speedo drive should be fitted to the gearbox?,are they interchangable?also Ive heard that the gearing at the gearbox can altered,can anyone help please? Thanks Andy Douglas |

Are you sure that you have the correct speedo fitted? It is not unknown for them to have been replaced with one from a different model of Midget, or even an MGB. |

Mine is underreading as well I am only doing 110 when I am flat out when it should be 130!! Only kidding!! How do you know it is under reading? |

Just checked my speedo the numbers are SNT 6211 12S the same as Alans I think mine should have a 3.7 diff I need to see if the casing has any ID marks Thanks For all the help Andy |

Check the TPS (turns per mile) - usually a figure of around 900 to 1300 on the old Smiths speedos... I use an MGC speedo in my KMidget with Ford Type-9, and it's reasonably close. A |
