MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 1.75mm SU Inlet Manifold
I need a 1.75mm SU Inlet Manifold but can't find one. Has anyone in the UK got one? Or do you know where I can get one from? I have a Superflow of a Metro but it won't let you close the bonnet and I dont want to cut the bonnet. Any ideas? |

Might be easier to find a 1 3/4 INCH manifold. Engine will prolly breathe better, too. David "those are hard to come by, too" Lieb |
David Lieb |
The Carb is a HIF44 so I suppose I should have said I want an 13/4 inch Inlet. |

Those never came standard on any cars here in the USA, so I am waiting for something to appear by magic on my doorstep. Good thing I am not holding my breath. I believe that what you have is for a Mini. There are many clearance issues with 1.75" carbs on Spridgets. ISTR that there is a model of HIF44 intended for one of the Turbo Metros that has a shorter dashpot on it. That, in conjunction with a Titan manifold intended for a Spridget, makes the best combination. David "better minds than mine will soon set you straight" Lieb |
David Lieb |
You want a Titan. Plenty in the archives. They come up every now and again on Ebay. You need quite a wide search as sometimes they can be found complete with a carb without being specifically listed. A wanted on the classifieds here may unearth a spare one. |

Be carefull Titans come in 3 angles. 1 original mini, useless because of the angle. 2 original Spridget, priceless and 3 the newest version with an angle between that of the mini and the Spridget. Bad news is the angle is still no good for the 1275 of the Spridget and the good news is it fits the 1098 engines and is machinable to fit the 1275 without to many hassle. Angles are to be found in the archives. Bas |

Just to let you all know Maniflow do an Inlet manifold for a Spridget. It's steel and produces good results.Mine will be with me next week so we'll see how it goes. |
Peter King |
The benefit of the titan is not purely the angle - its the relatively low mounting of the carb to the inlet ports. (which also makes the middle manfild nuts a pain) My Titan came from a mini and fits just fine. I compared against an Ital cast manfold. Same angle - different mounting height and it was uselss. So to re-iterate the angle is not the only factor. No-one has yet managed to post a picture of the various titans next to each other to illustrate the difference. Bas - did you try a titan and have problems ? |
Dean Smith ('73 RWA) |
Dean, the Mini manifold may have actually been a midget one! I think there is only 15 degrees difference, and it's difficult to tell them apart unless you measure them. The Midget one will probably work ok in a Mini, but usually not the other way round, because of bonnet clearance. Cheers John |

Hi All I am also looking for a manifold can't find A titan anywhere on the net, Moss List a titan for the midget but for information only they then show a replacement Part Number MT 3603, but following the "Classic Mini" links leads to the same part!! Has anyone tried one of these? I have tried a minisport manifold but as well as the angle being wrong the underside fouls the LCB exhaust so reducing the angle will make this worse. I haven't seen any other mentions of this problem so can I assume that with the right manifold this isn't an issue? Peter, The Maniflow sounds interesting let us know how you get on |

It might well have been. I had to open the throat from a 38 to a 44. No idea what they come like originally in either setting. I still want to see a midget and a mini one side by side ;-) |

Dean, I posted a comparison of twin 1 1/4 original/ titan / minisport, angles / heights / widths - however did not know which titan manifold i've got either. Would be good if others could be checked to compare Post 10-08-2007 was titled - HIF 6/44 angles incl titan Richard |

The Maniflow item does tempt me, but there is no provision for a vacuum tap for my cruise control ;-( David "spoiled brat" Lieb |

I thought the Maniflow single SU manifold was alloy and very similar to the (? rip-off) ones perenially on eBay. Their website is not exactly 'profusely illustrated', so where is there a pic of a steel single SU Maniflow, please? Tom |
Tom Coulthard |
Maniflow will fit a tapping on a manifold if you ask them to. They put a servo tapping on my 6.75" Weber manifold. |
Daniel Thirteen-Twelve |
Dean I have a Titan but fitted on a 1098 engine. Those blocks are a bit lower I am told so any thing may fit. I recall the earlier thread about angles and what I remember was that mine had the correct Spridget angle although I bought it off a mini specialist. But its a great manifold. Bas |
Bas Timmermans |
Tom, My mistake. I thought APT carried them, but they only show the Titan alloy for single 1.75" carb. They show Maniflow steel for the dual carb intakes, but not the singles. David "I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken" Lieb |
David Lieb |
AFAIK the Titan is for single 11/2 or single 13/4 carbs (did they came for dual carbs too?). For 13/4 carbs you have to grind the inner ridge to the appropriate 44 mm diameter. Bas |

As I promised one of you here is the image of my Maniflow Inlet that has just arrived. My thanks to Maniflow for such an excellent service. |
Peter King |
Peter - that looks very good. What do they call it and how much is it? |
Tom Coulthard |
Golly - that DOES look good. Can we have a shot of the other face please, Peter? |
Nick |
Hi Guys, Image as requested of the other face. Just ask for a Spridget Single SU 1 3/4" HIF44 Inlet. It cost me £145.00 inc VAT & P&P. Phone 01722 335378 but they are busy Regards Peter |
