MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 1978 midget swervs when accel petal released
My midgets wants to swirv when I release the accel petal to shift. I am guessing it's the engine mounts flexing. Are there other possible causes? |

Loose rear axle. Moving on the springs. AndyB |

Andys wins the loose axle award. you have to recheck and tighten the nuts on the U-bolts about ever 6 months, they like to work loose Prop |

Also check spring bushes... could be play due to wear; and loose brackets to body. A |

Mine did that with the speedo reading 115mph. I had just passed Mick - nearly finished the wiring, on the Keighley bypass in his auto windscreen transit! Loose axle - no not loose - just not tight enough. |

Wow, an entire thread where no one used the word lose instead of loose - even prop got it right.... There is a conspiracy afoot I can smell it :) |

Need to check Andy; you wouldn't want to lose it. (Feels better now, Will?) A |

Broken leaf spring? Happened to my first Midget. Took me a long time to work it out! |

Another thing to watch on this is the condition of the pads between axle & spring. They eventually reach a stage where even though the U-bolts are very tight the problem persists. If this happens, fitting new pads will fix it. |

Thanks everyone. An inspection revealed one wheel set loose and the other side had two nuts gone and the other two very loose. I will order pads and ubolts on my next parts order. I guess it's another item to add to my must check regularly list. Thanks again. |
