MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 3 point inertia sealbelt options ?
Hi All, I want to replce the very old lap belts in my '72 with some 3 point 'modern' inertia belts. Are the ones from Moss adequate ? I'm not looking to skimp on price on belts :) but are there other suppliers that do kits ? cheers, Phil. |

Hi yourself, Phil. I went with the Securon belts, and have been impressed. They work smoothly, and the reels are adjustable for locking, once you've gotten them positioned as desired. -:G:- |

>>>>>>>>once you've gotten them positioned as desired.<<<<<<<<<< And there lies the can of frankenstine, blood sucking zombie, monster mash, spider infested, Worms...LOL I bought 2 sets of belts....and kept getting dis-embowled every time I took a 10 minute trip...finally ended up going to a classic non-wind up belt with aircraft buckels and midget crested shoulder strape pads...vary happy...but I do miss the retraction, My understanding is the Securon belts are deffinatly the way to go, with leaste hassle prop |

Securon belts fit fine in my 71 - got them from Phil at Welsh MG as he was the cheapest. Bit fiddly to set up but I've found them more comfortable than some modern ones. Come complete with all the bits you need. Jeremy |

Agreed, the Securons were a bit fiddly to get working right, but once I did, they've been entirely trouble-free. Ha - I remember one road trip where the original belt insisted on cinching me down another notch every time I hit a dip in the road. I finally had to pull off and tinker with it until it released. It was getting hard to see over the dashboard. For what it's worth, when I ordered my Securons I also got the mounting brackets that raise them and make them horizontal. But once I got around to installing them, I found that I could mount the reels directly to the large threaded bosses on the wheelwells, and then rotate the locking adjusters until they worked at that angle. I sent the brackets back for a refund, as I felt more secure mounting the reels directly to the structure. -:G:- |
