MG Midget and Sprite Technical - ´61 Midget bolt length
On my drum braked ´61 midget the bolts (51K1368) used to secure the front brake backplates to the stub axles are shorter than I would expect. The threaded part does not go much further than half way through the stub axle, not all the way through as I thought they should. All eight bolts are identical, and I have no particular reason to believe they have been changed. But as they are not available from Moss any more, can anyone here confirm that they are right? Or wrong? Tore |

I don't believe that the bolt length would be a problem in that application Tore. All the force is in shear on these bolts, nothing in tension, so the amount of threads in the swivel axle shouldn't matter to any extent. As long as you have at least 1/2" (13mm) of thread in the spindle I would think you'd be fine. |

Thanks, Bill. I believe there is just a little more than 1/2" of thread in the spindle. Will measure it. Tore |
