MG Midget and Sprite Technical - '64 Midget Solenoid connections?
I need some help please. Does anyone have details of which wires are attached to where on a solenoid fitted to a '64 midget? At the moment when I switch the ignition on to start the engine nothing happens. The solenoid doesn't engage. Thanks |

Neil You need to turn the key against the spring to operate the solenoid; then you'll have 12v on the white/red wire between the two main terminals. If this wire has 12v, then you should also have 12v on the starter-motor post; this should supply 12v and many amps to the SM itself. If not, the solenoid is at fault (assuming there's 12v on the battery/alternator post...) A |

Hi Anthony, When I turn the key against the spring I have power to the white/red. However this does not enagage the solenoid. If I press the button on the starter then the engine turns over. This isn't happening on the key though. So close to start up. |

This says the solenoid is faulty... assuming the body of the solenoid is earthed (is it?). A |

Another possibility: Is the red/wite attached to the right terminal? If it is a replacement solenoid it may have a second small lug for a ballast resistor. |

Have tried a solenoid from a 1500 and hey presto, it works. My problem is solved. Thanks all. |
