MG Midget and Sprite Technical - 649 cam or MG Metro cam?
Hello, I have found in an old 948 block which raced during the 80's a cam: slot drive 1/2 inch lobes no mark (it seems to had 3 stamped marks wich had been deleted - see photo - each aside of the cam and in the middle of the cam I have compared to a standard AEA 630 (2 rings) and the differences could be (difficult to be sure): less lobe displacement angle cam more rounded gap between smallest and biggest measures is nearly 0,3mm bigger than standard cam So it seems to be a cam with bigger lift, bigger opening time. And at least, when I carrefully look at the lobes, it seems the rounding is differnet between two adjacent lobes. And it is difficult to say if th less rounded lobe of the unkown cam has the same shape as the more rounded lobe of the standard. If so, this lobe should be 252° Does anyone have an idea? Do you know if MG Metro cam had three marks as on the photo? laurent |

Laurent, I can't be sure without checking but...... This may prompt some thoughts..... Didn't the C-AEG 648 (the 649 cam) not have a gear drive where the fuel pump drive is for a fuel injection pump drive...? The MG Metro cam is a different cam (in terms of performance) and would be very well suited to a 948 or 1098 engine. The 649 although designed for the small bore engine was a 'full race' cam. Mark. |
