MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Alternative seats
Chaps I seem to recall some threads regarding this topic - cannot find it...What modern seats may be used in a midget please? MX5 seats spring to mind....Basically just after something a little more comfortable than my 70s buckets and will more or less bolt straight in. Cheers |

MGF seats fit well and are very comfortable. Often on ebay at sensible prices. My leather ones cost just £10 (minus £1.20) though that was a while ago and was a bargain price then! |

I have a pair of MGF (or maybe mgtf - can't remember) that I adapted for my midget but decided not to use in the end. You're welcome to them if you can collect them from near Lanark. Graeme |

I put MG TF seats in my last Midget. Very smart and comfortable. You have to swap them over, driver's side to passenger's side, else you won't be able to get at the seat reclining wheel. |

It's also possible, with a little bracket fabrication, to fit them using the original bolt positions. Or alternatively, without extra brackets, by drilling just 2 new holes in the floor. |

I have just fitted a pair of MGF leather seats. Very comfortable, and fit (just). |

Gents Many thanks as ever. Graeme - those look just the job, though my interior is essentially blue. No matter. I'd be most happy to give you something for them. Do please call 07407 163 345 Kind regards |

Oggers, you can get leather dye which will very effectively convert to match your interior. I recoloured mine from ivory to a tan leather colour. |
GuyW |
Guy Agreed and thanks. I did think of dye. I did wonder though if a such strong colour such a Graeme's red seats would dye to blue. You were perhaps fortunate in that your colour change was not particularly drastic, plus you started out with a fairly neutral colour....good point though...certainly worth a try. |

Oggers, Many years ago when my sister bought the Sprite (before selling it to me), the interior was red but she didn't like it so she dyed it black. You couldn't see any red bleed through and the color lasted until I replaced everything since it was coming apart from age and use. I would think that properly applied with any recommended pre-treatment, you should be happy with the change. And with the seats out of the car, the job should be easy. |

Oggers. Firstly, sorry for the delay replying - been away from any technology for a few days. You'd be doing me a favour taking the seats off my hands. They've been sitting in the garage for at least ten years taking up space. I've thought many times of taking them to the tip so I'm more than happy to let you have them for free. I will get them out of the wrappings this week and make sure the mice haven't made a home in them then I'll drop you a text and we can take it from there. Graeme |

Oops - meant to say, these are Cloth seats, not leather (although the sides and back could be leather or vinyl). |
graeme jackson |
Ok. I've dragged the seats out of the garage and they're not too bad. Musty have been damp at some time as there was a little surface mould on the fabric which has wiped off with a damp cloth. I'll take a couple of photos once they've dried off. |

as promised.
