MG Midget and Sprite Technical - BL Badge in front of A-pillar
Hello again all. I've found amongst my bits and bobs the BL badge that fits just in front of the a-pillar, and thought I may as well stick it on. Does anyone have a dimension for the correct positioning of it? Thanks as always Mark |

i seem to remember doing mine "by eye" from an official photo. Mine is 2cms from A post to edge of badge, and 6cms from bottom of wing to bottom of badge. I put one on both wings, but I've heard that they actually only put one on the NSW, and nothing on the OSW. Is that true ? |

I think the story about the badge only being on the NS refers to the V8 badge on the BGT wing so it could be seen when you are over taking something but not when something is overtaking you-probably an MG urban myth! |

There is definitely only one. And it's on the nearside. I've been squinting at photos the last couple of days trying to decide the dimension, and there's not one on the offside... |

Mark, the stick on is for a later model. My '72 had a hole drilled and a badge with a pin. The colors silver and blue where reversed on the later badges. I'm not sure of the changeover, but if you want it absolutly correct comb the archives. Phil 'less and less correct by the minute' |

Having looked again at the original brochures for L reg RWA and 1275's with the early Rostyle wheels 71? They have badges on both sides Mine still has neither so not a purist ! Richard. |

They did change from two to one at some point IIRC. My car still has original wings fitted, so I will try to take some measurements. |

I've just scanned the following from the 'Heritage' parts catalogue. Obviously BL's cost-cutting measures! |

I found this post in the archives: Originally posted by Steve Clark; From Horler "British Leyland motifs were secured by spire fittings to the rear lower corner of each front wing, but from GAN5 118599 (April 1972) a single stuck-on motif was applied to the passenger side only and the colour changed from blue / silver to silver / blue." |

My 71 would have had silkscreened badges on each wing, and a plastic MG emblem on the back. Later cars had a single enamelled closienne BL badge on the right wing and a cast aluminum MG emblem on the boot. |

My 71 definitely has two. I took them off the original shell 20 years ago and will try and dig them out for a photo. IIRC they are silver and blue and have two pins which fit like the midget sill letters, ie with plastic grommets. There are two photos which may help but don't describe any dimensions. Jeremy |

Just measured the badge location... Rear edge of badge is 1.75" from the rear edge of the wing. Bottom edge of the badge is 2" from the bottom edge of the wing. Note: this was measured at the rearward edge of the badge, as the bottom of the wing is slightly curved. |

here's a recent pic I took. My leyland badge was falling off so i pulled it out the rest of the way to keep it from getting lost on the road. I'll reglue it soon.
