MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Brake light switch - which relay

Me again. Following the failure of my headlights I quickly checked all the other lights. I discovered my brake lights were not functioning. I don't know how long they have been like that. Thanks to the archives I know what the problem is and how to fix it. My question is where can I get a relay? I don't know what I need. Is this one from Halfrauds any good:

or do I need something like this from ebay:

Thanks.

Stuart - The relay from Halfrauds is what you want. See the article, Brake Light Relay in the Other Tech Articles section of my web site at: http://homepages.donobi.net/sufuelpumps/ Cheers - Dave

I would suggest using

Vehicle wiring produxt and you can get cable and connectors at the same time.

I believe you need the R20B

Stuart first one is best and make sure to put the relay as close to the device as possible and make a new fat lead from the battary to the relay. Its wise to put a relay after the ignition switch to.

You'll be amazed how much output all your devices will give after this treatment. When putting these in you can consider putting some new fuseboxes in too.

Just make sure that you installation leaves room for the relay for the low beams, the relay for the high beams, the relay for the fan, the relay for the horn, etc.

I don't think that fitting a relay is the answer. The problem is, in my opinion, the currently available brake light switches. These are just crap and don't last five minutes. I think the diaphragm inside them leaks and allows fluid behind, this in turn doesn't allow enough pressure to make the contacts contact and ultimatly, they are junk. I was lucky, a while ago, I found and bought a few NOS Lucas brake light switches and have never had a problem since....

Since I have no choice but to buy the crap new switches I have bought two and will fit a relay. At least I'll have a spare switch in hand ready for when the new one goes SNAFU.
