MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Can I leave the bypass hose closed?
When I got my 948 frogeye the bypass hose missed. The water pump and the cylinder head are closed. Will it do any harm to the motor or head? Flip |

Flip. I have not done this myself. However, when I owned a 61 Sprite Mark II, back in the late 60's, this was a commonly recommended modification. After having to connect the bypass hose, and attach clamps, while trying to install the cylinder head I understood why so many people blocked off the passages. None of the people that I knew ever had a problem with that modification. Les |

.....and thousands of 1.3 Metros never had a problem that I'm aware of. Not as a result of lack of by-pass hose, I mean.... 8^) |

Although Metros bypass via the second half of the two piece stat housing ISTR My midget WITH Metro head and water pump (no bypass on either) is quite happy not bypassing... I did, as advised after I'd fitted it, take the 'stat out and drill a ¼" hole in the main plate. But even before I did it was perfectly OK. |

Thank You I 'll leave it closed. ( And leave a bypasshose there for originality) Flip |
