MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Carb dashpot size
Hi, I have a 79 midget and a housemate has just purchased a 78, Mine has the HS4 carbs on, his has a set of carbs with the same inlet aperture (1.5") yet the Dashpots are considerably larger than mine. Is this still a set of HS4's or another variation of the SU carb? What effect does the larger dashpot give the carbs? Thanks in advance Dave

78&79 didnt have Su cabs...in fact its a 1500cc triumph...most likely they where added on...the HS4 and HS2 look identical the 4 is the bigger set...got any photos... prop

Prop, AMERICAN export 1500 Midgets had the Zenith/Stromberg carbs. UK Home Market vehicles had dual SU HS4 carbs. Dunno the benefit of the taller dashpots, assuming that both pistons go up the same amount... David "jealous" Lieb

Uk spec cars had SU's, there are a variety of different types, if you post the number on a small metal tag fixed to one of the float chambers, it might be FZX 1122 or FZX 1258, but there again it could be something else. I don't think there is any performance difference between them. HTH Alan
