MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Cheap electric fuel pump

I have a '77 1500 and want to convert the mechanical fuel pump to an electric one. When the car has not been used for a while, the tic tic tic will be music to my ears in place of the grinding of the starter for what seems minutes!
Suggestions for anything reliable under £50 will be gratefully received.

Can’t help regarding converting a 1500 to electrical but I got fed up with the diagrams hardening on my electronic SU pumps with the new fuel and failing, maybe the latest ones are resistant? - so I’ve fitted a Hardi AUF214 pump - German.
So far so good.

However they seem to be advertised at about £80.

Tony, there's another solution that might appear a bit left field, but which I know has been used successfully.
The AC Delco mechanical pump is a reliable device but as you say it can take a little time to get going if the car has stood awhile.
To get round this you can plumb in a squeezy bulb primer from an outboard boat engine between the tank and the pump, under the bonnet. If you use the car every day it won't be needed, but a few squeezes will flood through the mechanical pump and send fuel up to the carbs.
I haven't done it yet to my 1500 but I have the bits to do it and it's on the job list. Much cheaper than nasty electric pumps.
On the other hand if your pump is taking a really excessive time to start the car it's possible that it just needs a refresh. If it's the type with the top and bottom parts held together by five screws the rebuild kit is cheap and super easy to fit. New seals, springs, diaphragm and poppet valves all in the kit and make a big difference.

As others have said a German made Hardi pump (Model 13312), perhaps you can find one in France cheaper than we can get them in the UK: http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/Fuel/Pumps/AUF214MS.aspx?1303&ReturnUrl=/shop/classic/Fuel/Pumps.aspx%7CBack%2520to%2520shop
