MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Classic Car Values
The latest edition of Practical Classics dropped through the letter box yesterday and I have been checking over their classic car valuations. Top price for a midget is c£11,000 with the equivalent Sprite a touch higher. Frogeyes are at £20,000. What I am especially interested in are the values of cars I used to own. Post 1970 and values are rising, pre 1970 and they are falling. How I wish I still had my BMW 232i or my Saab 99 Turbo. I recently heard Derek Mathewson saying pre war cars are very difficult to sell. I wonder what will happen to all the Morris 8s and Ford 10s and even Vintage cars in the future. One thing that puzzles me though is the value of a late MG TF. I have owned one and apart from permanently saturated carpets and underfelt it was a very pleasant and reliable car. Practial Classisic valuation for a concours one is £3,400!

Those magazine price guides have always been a bit hit and miss.
Some of the cars I used to own are now worth a fortune but worse than that are some of the cars I’ve nearly bought in fairly recent years. When we sold our first Mk1 Midget for £6k in 2006 we started looking at replacing it. A Clio V6 was one option but the more serious option was a an Integrale Evo as I used to have an 8v Intrgrale a few years before. We found a lovely low mileage yellow Evo2 for what seemed like an eye watering £25k but just weren’t brave enough to take the plunge. I doubt we would have done many miles in it and it would have been well looked after so today would probably have been worth over £100k. Instead I spent probably close to the £25k on hillclimbing and racing my Sprite! |
