MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Cleaning engine bay?
My engine might be going back in the bay sometime soon(!), and I want to clean all the crap out the engine bay. What ridiculously caustic chemical will clean this good and proper? |

I find a liberal sprinkling of "Gunk" shifts most things. If most of the engine bay is clear you could spray gunk everywhere and steam clean. |

Gunk does work, although there are quite a few alternatives. Best to work it in with a brush, leave a while, then power wash off. It doesn't look like it's working as you're putting it on, but it comes up very well with a rinse. I've just done the same and it cleaned paintwork up that I thought was already clean. I would have thought that anything more caustic might damage the paint. |

Tarquin, so what collor was under that faded orange/mustard/rust collor of yours? Tell me there was a nice collor originaly under that worn out collor of your midget. LOL |

Mick - trying to sort the wiring |
Gonna pop out and get some gunk I think.... |

Rich, I used gunk on many of my engines/bays, and to good effect. As others have said, apply with a brush a leave a while. To wash off I used paraffin in my compressor gun, but if you have no exposed metal (as I did with my land rover lump)water should be ok, I personally thought the gunk/oil reacted when i used the steam cleaner, but came off with a bit more elbow grease. Did also apply a light coat of panel wipe after too, which wiped off any ramainig residue with a cloth. |

You irritable dutch turd. How dare you. I can't wait to get a nice fresh coat of yellow on there. And hopefully the engine bay will stay oil free this time around. |
Tarquin |
Yellow? If thats yellow then what the collor of a banana? And dont you call me names boy, im 2 months older then you are you twat, have respect for age and experience! :) |

I always found Gunk to be rubbish and I prefer Jizer in a green can when I can find it. Usually I can't find Jizer so I use some Carplan stuff that looks like Blue parafin that works ok. |

Gunk also stinks for ages afterwards. Jizer also smells, but the smell doesn't linger so much. |
Guy Weller |
Each to his own. I actually like the smell of gunk :-) |
