MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Clutch Will Not Work
My brother has been having horrendous problems with the clutch on his MG B. Every single part, including the hydraulics is brand new, bought from the owners' club. Bleed the system and it works for a couple of minutes then it starts to drag. He has tried pressure, vacuum and conventional bleeding all without success, until today. The flexi hose that fits into the slave cylinder has a male flare where it joins the copper pipe. The outlet in the master cylinder has a female flare. The copper pipe that had been supplied had male flares at both ends. The original, rusty steel pipe had a male and female flare. The male to male join at the flexi was allowing air to enter the system. Perhaps he should have checked the copper pipe but when you buy something you do expect it to be fit for purpose. Also not everyone has a flaring tool and many will buy the pipe as ready to fit.
Best to check your flares - especially the brakes! Jan T |
