MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Coilover spring rate
I've been through the archives and the question has been asked before but not answered. If I went to a 5 link rear end with coilovers to replace my 1/4 eliptics on the race car, approx what spring rate should I be looking at? With the present setup it looks like a no-brainer conversion to gain more clearance for the tyres. |

I'd suggest around 120-140 lb-in; approx half the front rate, assuming they are near vertical. A |

There's a midget Turbo in the MGworkshop right now, fitted with coil-overs. I you want I could see if there's some specs on it. |

Std semi elliptic leaf springs are about 100 lb/in. We've gone for 110 lb/in on our rear coils as they are mounted a little bit further inboard ... can't say how they work as that particular project has yet to hit the road! |

Thanks guys, those numbers sound a bit better than the 500lb springs on m/bike coilovers. I hope this little exercise doesn't mess up the handling or I'll spend another age getting it right again. I want to keep the back relatively soft and we have a good spring maker here (King Springs) who will do progressive rate springs to custom spec. cheers Mike |
