MG Midget and Sprite Technical - cold cranking current

'evening, Chaps....1275 midget...anyone know what the CCC is for a bog-standard car? Thinking about temperatures about 6 degrees C or thereabouts...
Many thanks..

This is from a Lucas manual that I downloaded last week.

Here's the rest of the page.

I will see if I can find a link to the download, which I think was possibly on the TD/TF board.

From a later Lucas booklet -

Note: During the voltmeter checks the starter should crank the engine without starting it.
Petrol engines The low-tension circuit of the ignition coil should be disconnected between the coil and distributor.

A voltmeter connected between the positive and negative battery terminals. The reading is noted when the starter switch is operated. The readings for a 12 volt system depends on the engine capacity, battery size (Ah) and type of starter. A typical figure for petrol engines is about 10.0 volts.

If I were a betting man (which I'm not) I'd guess the CCA for an A series engine wouldn't exceed 200A in cooler conditions and on a warmish day 100A might be nearer the mark. There'll be an initial surge in current as the starter gets the engine turning but that will then drop back somewhat.

You'd have to be close Bill
I was told when in my yoof to expect around 100A per litre engine size while cranking,
naturally there will be a larger draw/surge initially

Coincidentally in the last couple of days I decided to check the cranking current of my B, using my late fathers AVO model 12 and 900A shunt. This is the first time I’ve used this since he died 20 years ago. After an initial flick of the needle it settled down to 150A, the temp wasn’t that low, I would guess about 17 degrees C
