MG Midget and Sprite Technical - convertible top / boot
have 74' midget. There was a new top on car when I bought it, though I'm not sure if it is installed correctly. Plus, I cant tell how a top "boot" would be attached over the top. The pictures I have found does not appear to be what I have. guess i'm looking for detailed pics or description to make sure either what I have is correct or what it will take to make it correct. Thanks. |

Hoods that haven't been folded correctly sit much higher than they should and make it virtually impossible to fit a tonneau (top boot ??) over them. When folding, all the fasteners inside and outside should be released then the complete fabric should be pulled well clear of the frame and back over the boot as the frame is lowered. The frame should then sit neat and low. Fold the side windows in and then wrap the hood round the frame and underneath. This should result in no actual crease in the main rear window and you should end up almost flush with the bodywork and tonneau covers will fit easily. This one is a pic of how not to do it. Its simply been pushed back without pulling the fabric clear. The hood will be ruined in a very short time frame. http://awesomecarauctions.com/uploaded_images/1978%20mg%20midget%20blue-731752.jpg When folded properly it will be closer to this. http://www.usmgparts.com/images/cars/midget.jpg (random images from google) |
