MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Cortina Brakes
Came across this site whilst looking for a panhard rod photograph: http://spriteparts.com.au/gremlin.htm Ford COrtina front brake caught my eye: http://spriteparts.com.au/photogallery/gremlin/Ford%20Cor tina%20discs%20and%20calipers.JPG http://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/ford_cortina_mkII_technical_specifications.htm This looks like an almost bolt-on (9.5") disc/caliper swap! Have emailed the folks, but does anybody else know more?

Just some information I can give you: The early Mk1 GT and Lotus Cortina were fitted with the P14 calliper but these were fornd to be too small and only allowed small pads, the later Mk1 GT and Lotus and the Mk2s were fitted with the P16 Calliper. Ford Escorts carried on this trend but used the metric version M16. I was almost certain the bolt spacings were the same as the midget, but looking at the picture on the site you show, the calliper has been fitted on anothe bracket, I suppose that will be to accomadate the larger dia disc. Hope that little bit helps. Mark.

I think I have seen details of that mod elsewhere and if the same the caliper is mounted to new mounting points welded to the side of the stub axle. Note the normal mounting lugs at the front rather than rear, indicating the stubaxles have been swapped side to side.

page 99!!! This was a reasonable conversion at one time but was not available for w/w cars. The MGB caliper and Spit disc with adaptor was so popular it practically made the Cortina conversion extinct.
