MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Datsun gearlever cut and shut

For those who have done the cut and shut modification on a Datsun gearlever (as opposed to the shortening) can you tell me with your welded it back together with the top part in line with the part below the pivot (overlapped but in line with if you see what I mean) or was it cranked backwards?

Cheers

I ordered mine from Rivergate and its inline and IIRC its placed right to to the cut off stomp.

That way its almost perfect in the middle. Only for the early cars you may have to adapt the little dome for shifting in first or fifth.

On a Bugeye or midget Mk1 , the original shift boot can be installed upside down. That will reduce the likelyhood of the boot popping out when shifted to 5th gear.

I found that the orginal datsun lever fits fine un-modified....I did find that turning the shifter boot, backwards...180 degress will allow the shifter to funtion better.

So how is your datsun 5 speed conversion comming....Im curious how much out of alinment your engine/tranny is in relationship to the car itsself.....the first time I looked at my engine sitting sideways going from left to right, after I got everything hooked up, I was just a little bit freaked out by that....but thats the way its supposed to be....oddly some are more then others
