MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Demist hose
The LHD US import 1971 1275 I have to sort out is missing the de-mist hose on the driver's side. I have the de-mist hose, but have discovered that the upper end of the hose connects to the de-mister directly above the gauges and dimmer knob. Access is limited! What is the trick to reinstall this hose? |

not familiar with US cars but on a UK car undo 5 screws and pull the dash forward, should give enough clearance. |

X2 david for the usa spec car...and yes its still a pain in the butt Btw... the hose is just off the shelf vacume cleaner hose... any decent hardware box store or vac repair shop has it, for a few pennies per foot Prop |

Those five screws are at the two at each end, the two braces in the middle, and where else? Is the dash not secured along the top by three screws as well? How do you get to the centre one with a radio console in the way I remember the one I rebuilt a year ago was really tight to get at all the cabling behind the dash, and I didn't have to face getting past a fraction of the stuff that's on this car. |

I know this sounds extreme, but try pulling both of the seats then crawl under the dash for a looksy You might be able to nudge some of the mess to the side Any chance you can just splice in the new hoses into the old or is it bad all the way to the top P |

Dom, yes 7 screws if you have the two braces still fitted - don't need them on a race car. Radio console? - never had one of those, prefer the sound of engines ;-) |

On.the usa spec, there is a large radio consel that sits on the middle hump just under the dash... I turned mine into a 10 gauge box Prop |

Since the demist hose is fairly rigid and just a push fit onto the demister vent, it is usually possible simply to push it up from below and aim it to fit onto the vent. The problem is seeing what you are doing. A small torch/ spotlight of some sort really helps. And try sitting on the driver's seat upside-down! Sounds silly but with your legs up over the seat back, head forwards and your back supported on the seat base it is possible to get a fairly good clear view of the wonderful world of wires and hoses up behind the dash, normally hidden to casual public view. Sometimes a small inspection mirror on a stick helps too. Prop's idea of removing the seat may give more room but its an extra hassle and you are left with nothing to support you as you fiddle about behind he dash. |

To be honest... ive actually done what what guy suggested, it works but I kept slapping myself in the face with my man worm... so you may want to strap that puppy to your leg. . |

<<HMMMmmm ... Ben gay or bobs butt butter for that pretzel you used to call your back and spine>. Yes Prop, you do have to be careful where the handbrake goes. ;-) |

I tried Guy's manouevre sorting out some wiring (driver's side). Stuffed an old garden-chair cushion in the footwell and unscrewed the steering wheel from its boss. Surprisingly comfy, but I'm a shortarse! |

Guy, Im just teasing you, you had the best wording for a meaty softball. you are correct ... ive done it that way and used a pillow under my neck for support... I didnt undo the steering column just arhed my back a little extra... I think just forcing the tubes on is the way to go, I removed the dash to add hose clamps to the demistor tubes and it wasnt necessary Prop |
