MG Midget and Sprite Technical - door mirror identification

I got this door mirror in the boot when i got the car, a MKIII sprite.

I only got one, does this look correct ?
It has 'DESMO' and 'England patt app for' cast into the base.

Its just dirty in the pictures, i think i could polish it up to look ok...

No mirror, or gasket included though so it might be easier to just get new ones.....

Had you contacted me 12 ? Years ago i could have provided the other side... i had the same mirror in the same condition but tossed it sometime back

I didnt like it personally it never really looked right it just didnt match the car lines

Hi Andy,
I've had a quick look and Desmo is period, later sold as Unipart and BMC.

That style doesn't appear on my the extras in my 1972/3 brochure (bullet or springback do).

Others might know if that mirror was used on Spridgets but I wonder if the angle would be right on door or wing and if you'd need a plinth for door fitting.

Tex mirrors are usually fitted now, see my thread from earlier this year titled 'Door mirror'.

A link here for replacement glass and plastic retainer; but note from 'Door mirror' thread that you might need a metal spring, that you've not photoed, if the glass doesn't have squashy strips on the back of the glass.

Thanks Nigel,
ill contact the morris minor place with some dimensions to see if they are the correct size.

Though it looks like buying the TEX type from Moss might be the easiest/cheapest way to go.

Andy,
there are other suppliers too.

Others might know, I don't, but with the Tex door mirror you might need the plinth too so extra cost, my model does.

Yes, if you get them from moss they come with a chrome plinth.
Today I offered up the mirror to the door and it fits without any plinth, and I must say I like the way it looks.
Waiting for a reply from the morris minor place to see if their mirror glass will fit.

If anyone has a left hand side one sitting around in s box I would be interested.
Andy Phillips (frankenfrog)

Here's another right hand one. I removed it from a midget in 1982. I replaced both doors, so fitted Tex mirrors at the same time.

Recently retrieved from my mother's garage.
