MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Door seal question

Whilst relating specifically to my mk2 Sprite with sidescreen doors I think this question probably applies to all Sprites and midgets.

Should the door seal act against the door or the door card? Put another way, should the door card end about 3/8" shy of the sides and bottom of the door or be flush with those edges.

I know what I think the answer is but I'd value your opinions, especially someone who had a car from new or near new.

Good question. In my opinion, the obvious answer would be that the rubbers should seal against the door, not the cards. But my experience is similar to yours in that the cards seem to make as good a contact as the doors.

Hm...
