MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Door seal replacement.

I have been reading in the archive that a home made tool makes the job much easier (replacing the clips).
Does anyone have a picture?

You mean this one?

A bent piece of metal does indeed make the job a lot easier.

Wish I did. I made the tool and installed the seals, but then mailed to the tool to somebody else who was doing the same thing.

I used a strip of brass about 1/2" inch wide, and bent a "hook" at the bottom end, fine-tuning the hook until it would hold a spring clip securely but let it go when pushed downward after seating the clip. Not that big a deal, really. And I used brass only because I had some on hand from another project. Oh, I bent a loop at the top of the strip to make pulling easier.

You'll still drop a few clips, but there's really no other way to do this one.

Also, remember that the clips are different. The fuzzy strip rides right against the glass, so the clips should be flat on the inside so they won't scrape the glass. The clips for the outer strip have more of a V shape when seen from the end, making it easier to get them situated before pulling them up. Remember too to press down on the strips when seating the clips so you don't pull the strips up along with the clips.

And be patient... this job is a verified hair-puller.

Cheers,

PS - Dave and I cross-posted. Yeah, that's what you need. But as you can see, it's relatively simple and you can save the expense and make one yourself.

Thankyou both, that looks simple enough.

I used an old hacksaw blade. Heated the end bright red and bent it to a "U" shape. Made a knob with masking tape. I squeezed the end enough to hold the Jesus clips.

Sandy, a buddy and I tried the same method (bent hacksaw blade) when replacing his midget's door seals. Our finding was that the blade was extremely brittle! It broke several times at the "hook," we re-heated and bent it, and it would break again. It was a good deal shorter by the time we were finished.
