MG Midget and Sprite Technical - E10 Fuel

I suppose there's many threads on this.
What I'd like to know how owners have got on this E10 are they using it with an additive, if so, which brand.
Speaking to Millers when this was introduced in September they informed me that they have a product
but with not really using the car I've not purchased any Looking for recommendations, the car is used for competition and E5 is rather rare in North Wales.

See HVCA website for a report on E-fuels.

I've used E10 but only when I can't find E5 which fortunately is available local to me as I live on the Wales/Shropshire border. There is a cluster of Esso garages in the area I can get E5 from.
No noticeable problems so far.

I understand and share some of the concerns regarding E10 fuel so this is not intended as a criticism of anyone, but we are some way behind certain other countries on this so surely we should learn from their experience.

Brazil had mandatory blending of fuels with up to 22% ethanol as long ago as 1976 and by 1979 there were some cars running on 100% ethanol.

It seems the return to blended fuel, still in the region of 25% ethanol was largely due to supply problems rather than reliability issues. No doubt performance and overall fuel consumption were affected, but development is still continuing.

All that is based on Wikepedia so its absolute accuracy might be questionable and it is somewhat out of date, but it does give some idea of what's possible. Brazil has been able to make use of waste generated by sugar cane farming so may be particularly well placed for ethanol production. Here in the UK, our capacity for home-grown ethanol is much less. When this was being discussed 15 or more years ago (before the rise of the EV), a bit of mental arithmetic based on available data showed that, if we went to 100% home grown bio fuel for transport, we would have to use 100% of all available arable land!

As with so many things these days, we just might have to learn to adapt and live with something less satisfactory than that to which we have become accustomed and to which folk seem to think they are entitled.

Bloody E10 has caused my brakes to seize on.

They were fine before the change! ;-)

Malcolm, You're only supposed to put E10 in the fuel line, not in the brake lines!
C Mee

Good one Malc. 🤣

Yes there was a thread on this subject.

Millers did VSPe Power Plus – Multi-shot for old cars before and now also for old and new - EPS – Ethanol Protection System.

I have used a bottle of SPe Power Plus – Multi-shot with E10 and it works fine but it is supposed to be stored in a cool place, my midget is parked outside 365/6 days year and even in winter the boot gets solar gain. The bottle has a 2 year life stamp too.

The FBHVC give approval to both according to Millers.

I dont recall any of the E fuss in the sixties.

Malc,

more likely to be Putin than E10.
