MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Early track - inner tie rod thread
Does anyone know what the thread is for the inner tie rod on the early rack. Or put another way, what the rack bar is threaded to? Thanks |

I think its a fairly course thread but its locked into place with a strange locking system... I dont think its possiable to unlock it without breaking it The Chicago land mg club has a great youtube vid for dismantling and rebuilding the rack for an MGA, which is an exact copy of thr early midget rack Prop |

I have the answer, mostly for the archive, though my misspelling the title with track instead of rack probably scuppers anyone searching the archive. Also some info for Prop. Removal of the inner tie rod from the rack is with a C spanner. C spanners come in different sizes are historically were used to fasten or unfasten the locking ring on a bicycle bottom bracket set (the bit the cranks fasten to, etc). You can get adjustable C spanners and they tend to get used on racing dampers of the expensive type that can be adjusted or stripped down. The thread, is 16 threads per inch (TPI) which I established with my whitworth thread gauge. My bolt gauge tells me it's a half inch. Google leads me to table of threads and half inch at 16TPI is half inch British Standard Fine (BSF). Maybe that would be called half inch whitworth fine. |
