MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Electronic ignition (1500)
I know that some of you with A series have used the A series version of this with success. Has anyone with a 1500 with standard ballista coil and a 45D dizzy used the equivalent? That is this one: - http://www.simonbbc.com/electronic-ignition-kits/by-distributor-model/lucas-45d-43d-59d-powerspark-electronic-ignition-kit And any probs or is it just OK for the job? Doing dynamic timing as my next engine job so looking at the ignition change while I am on. Thanks in advance Dave |

I have been looking and might try this http://www.mm-4x4.com/britpart-electronic-conversion-kit-2720-p.asp thought it might be worth a punt at the cost. |

It looks similar to the pretronix chip here in the states which is almost uber expensive..over $100 The primary issue is see on this kit that is similar to our pretronix is the postion and connection of the wire to the the chip As the dissy plate moves back.and.forth, the wires will hinge back and forth as well at the spot where they enter into the chip....over time the insulation breaks down.at.that joint then arcs out to ground, thus releasing the magic lucas blue smoke If you can find away to.prevent that hinging.effect... then yes, its a very good set.up...esp with worn sloppy dissys..and at that price.... it might be worth while Ive scence gone back to points Prop |

Hi Dave, I put one on mine, a very standard 1500, and have been totally happy with it. No issues 3 years on. Cheers, richard |

For a 1500, the Britpart system that Mark mentions does the job extremely well. Mines been fitted for some years now and never missed a beat (unlike the optronic that I have on my other Midget). It only cost around £12 at the time and was well worth it. Dave |
