MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Engine rear seal
In June I stared having a bad oil leak. Looks like the major oil leak is coming from the rear seal, a lot of oil on rear of stump on back over the transmission. What is the best way to check for a this type of leak? |

Rear Main Seal will be apparant by the drips from the bottom of the bell housing where it mates with the engine back plate. Just dont "upgrade" to the rubber lip seal - every one we have tried has lasted about 3 days and returned to being utterly useless. |

1275 or 1500?? if it is a 1275 have you fitted an aftermarket oil seal conversion? you can first try the sumpgaskets without having to pull the engine But short of that pull the engine...... |

This is a 1500 engine. When the midget sets in the gargage, the drips are not right under the bell housing. Drips are off the frame next to the engine. Also no oil in the bottom of the front of the stump but has on the strump further back and on the rear of the strump. Bolts on stump are tight but wonder if I need a new gasket for the stump. Oil shows on the drivers side and transmission. It does leak while you are driving and up to driving temputures. |
