MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Exhaust manifold 1500

Can anyone recommend a multi-branch manifold to replace the standard cast iron exhaust manifold on a 1500?

Apart from the manifold, the rest of the existing system is in stainless steel, which I would like to retain.

Is there a stainless steel manifold on the market which would fit the existing set-up?

Hi dave,

I have used the triumph manifold. It's a 3-2-1 so IMHO a little more efficient than the stock midget manifold. I did have to use a triumph down pipe (with a little jiggery pokery) it fits snuggly and should give me a slight improvement on performance.

The sports exhaust systems are all well and good but they take up a lot of space and make it awkward to do useful things like accessing the drain plug for the water jacket.

on my 1275 I recently had a S/S LCB Maniflow to relace the exsiting one of unknown make but again S/S tubular LCB as the old one was just too close to the ground

the Maniflow was much better the car breathes better now and goes the way it should have before but didn't

Maniflow make a manifold for the Triumph block in spitfire form, but don't list anything for the 1500 Midget. Probably worth giving them a call and enquiring. They make fantastic kit and have proven very helpful whenever I've had dealings with them.

Yes - contact Magic Midget - Kim supplies both the Triumph tune one and the Maniflow ones.

I've got a Maniflow on my 1500, it's a nice thing that I bought second hand, and also K & N Filters as there's little point exhausting better if you can't inhale freely. The cam and ports are standard.

The thing is you then need to change the carb needles from standard. Moss list AAT as a lean needle for K&N and tubular manifold. Tried that: too weak - it wanted choke at high revs. Moss then list AAQ for K&N and tubular manifold (not lean). I'm currently running this: much better but still needs a bit more at high revs.

I've been advised to try AAR needles next, and the SU needle profile charts show them as a bit richer than the AAQ's.

Any advice please?
