MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Failing Facet fuel pump?
The PO fitted a Facet (Gold Top?) cylindrical fuel pump to my car (together with a 1.4 K Series, Webers and regulator/filter) about 12 years ago, but the pump seems to be failing. Occasionally it stops ticking, but thumping the floor is enough to encourage it back into life. This reminds me of an old SU pump I had that could be restarted remotely by means of a sufficiently large ring spanner on the top of the transmission tunnel! Can the Facet be stripped and cleaned? If so, any guidance please? Thanks, Jonathan |

In my experience the day will shortly arrive when no amount of encouragement will bring the pump back to life. The older Facet interrupter pumps are just like the older SU pumps, as far as I know, in that they have something similar to contact breaker points that fail. I think the newer pumps are solid state. You could e-mail Facet in the USA and see what they say. |
