MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Fitting pistons
I have a silly question, when fitting pistons they are marked 'front'. Is the front of the engine the water pump 'end' or one of the sides as it sits in the car. Any other tips would be gratefully received as this is my first engine rebuild. Thanks. |

Yes the front is the water pump end. Trev |

Trev is right. If you look at the pistons, you couldn't fit them with 'FRONT' at the side of the engine. The orientation of the con rod bearing wouldn't allow it. 'FRONT' refers to the front of the engine in a car with the engine mounted fore and aft like the midget - ie. the water pump end of the engine. On a transverse engine like the Mini, it still means the water pump end. |
