MG Midget and Sprite Technical - free pedal movement
There was to much free pedal movement There it is! A rusty end of the brake master cylinder. (see photo) The quality of the dust covers is crab. After 1.5 years they where gone. So water and salt ingress was possible. On the dust covers is written made in England. I wonder where in the world they were made an from what kind of rubber. In the workshop manual is a totally different kind of dust cover a kind of gaiter they cal it a boot. The moss catalogue has the dust covers only. Flip Bruhl |

Flip- I think the first picture is a Magnette master cylinder. They use those boots or similar. Could also be Triumph or something else that used this type cylinder. AFAIK, the MGA/Spridgets all came with the shorty dust boots. Thing is, I do not know if there are any real Magnette kits available; MGA ones are the same except the boots, and are all I've ever seen. I think there may not be enough room on a Sprite to fit the long boots, and the fat bit of the pushrod. On a Sprite, salt should not be an issue, only atmospheric moisture. I use Girling red rubber grease in the bores and boots. FRM |
