MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Frog eye ignition/light switch
I would be really grateful for some help. When I turn the light switch, the entire barrel turns (unless I use both hands!). I have seen an article in the archives but cannot quite figure it out. Should the barrel (and hole in dash) have a flat side? Thanks |

Just wondering if anyone can help out? |

I do not have one Graham, but I would be surprised if it did not have a flat to locate it. I know of no other switch of the period that twisted to operate that did NOT have a flat to lock it into position. You could fit and MGA pull switch :) |

Hi Graham , I recently converted my Frogeye to LHD so i had the dash out and yes the round hole does have a flat edge to it for the very reason of stopping the switch from rotating ..Roy |

Bob Good idea, but then I would have nowhere to keep the ignition key :) I plan to take out the switch and have a good look some time next week. If you're right, the hole in the dash has probably "rounded itself" so hopefully it will be an easy fix to just araldite a thin piece of metal to the back of dash to reinstate flat side (I cant weld). I guess it might even rank as an MOT failure, as adjusting the lights whilst driving could switch the engine off. Graham (Bob, off thread, I share your scepticism about that other car. Just didnt have the heart to speak up!) |
