MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Frogeye body on Midget?
Graham P posted a autcion on the general board to a Frog eye front and rear FG body. What are the issues/legalities of fitting this to a midget shell? Is there less space "under the hood"? |

I dont see any issues if you can glue Arkley bits legitimately to a Spridget (of any stripe) and drive the car how could it be wrong to glue Spritealike bits to one? If the car can pass the MOT what's the problem? As to bonnet space, havent you looked under the lid of a Sprite? In general I suspect there to be quite a significant amount of extry space down under... But boot space? Different fish in the kettle, you'd lose the easy access and have to delve behind the seats. Not my cup of tea, ta! |

If i wanted boot space id be building an estate! Never looked under a frogeye, but extra space sounds promising! |

No issues, my IoW is registered as a Midget. DVLA take the view the Sprite and the Midget are the same car as the Chassis and major components are the same, you are not changing body type (2 seat sports) so no problem.. Boot space is not a issue (tool kit, spare wheel, hood and frame + side screens) still managed camping kit as well:) |

Yes, but if you wanna dump your mother-in-law's body a bootlid is much more practical.(dont ask me how i know) ;) |

I assume you are refering to the TIFOSI RANA kit. It is available now as I would say the modern Arkley kit, except unlike the Arkley it actually looks like a Frogeye. A friend of mine sells these kits and has actually fiited a almost scrap 1500 midget with the kit. no matter what our thoughts might be as my friend said it made use of a scrap 1500 midget that was otherwise beyond economical repair. If you want a few photos of the Tifosi give us a shout. |

The one on EBay isn't a Tifosi but the priciple should be the same, a fibreglass front and a complete back end. Cut away the body and bond the back on (more or less!). It's been done for years so there shouldn't be a problem with the DVLA. Graham. |

Midget clubman? A midget shooting brake would be kinda neat looking! |

Yes, but if you wanna dump your mother-in-law's body a bootlid is much more practical.(dont ask me how i know) ;) Lol I would need more than a Spridget, try a pick up or flat bed:-) |

Oh, and here is somebody who has put a frogeye bonnet on a mark 4 Sprite. Best of two worlds ?

That's the chappie I've liked that car for a few years now, you could build a "truckman" style rear on that quite easily. The Frog-get looks very nicely done too Thanks pjw |
