MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Frogeye Plug Fouling
I am trying to sort out a bog standard frogeye for a friends daughter. I have set timing, carbs, ignition etc but the plugs keep sooting up on overun or tickover. There is no more mixture adjustment, needles are correct GG and carbs look in good order. Any suggestions? |

Richard, where's the top of the jet in relation to the bridge, when there's no more mixture adjustment? |

air filters clean? Float chamber level right? The shoulder of the GG needle should be flush with the underface of the piston. Flip |

Float levels are OK and needles are flush with piston bottoms. Jets are also flush. I suspect jets may be worn. I have no history of the engine, so don't know what has been done to it. I will strip carbs down & Measure everything. Watch this space! |

If its on the overrun, check that the jets are centered properly so that the pistons drop fully shut with a "clonk". They may not be closing properly. |

Do you mean that you have run out of adjustment while trying to set the mixture? And What do you mean by the "Jets are also flush"? |

Richard, I had a simlar problem. Turned out that the choke wasn't completely disengaging, even though the knob had completely returned on dash. Easy enough to check. Just see if you can disengage further by hand in bonnet. But watch out for hot exhaust manifold! |
