MG Midget and Sprite Technical - frogeye with grp flip front, spotlight brackets
I want to fit some nice chrome spotlights. My car has a Frogeye GRP front which hinges from the front.. I assume i will have to fabricate my own brackets, has anyone done this before ? |

Andy I made mine for the spots but also to take supports when the bonnets open

Hi Dave, Took me a few looks to understand what is going on, are those support brackets there to support the bonnet when not on the car or just when the bonnet is open ? At first i thought the support was the timing splitter for hill climbing... Mine has a much less elaborate piece of plastic pipe which i use to prop it open.. For the spotlight brackets i dont really want to drill the front of the bonnet so i am picking up on some existing nuts and bolts which are part of the front hinge system , glassed into the front. i'll post some pictures when done. Decided to pick up on existing screws which hold the GRP bonnet to the hinge panel. Sent the bracket/mini-bumper off for chroming and it looks quite nice i think... Got some clear indicator lenses on order also which will clean up the look abit. The 'spotlights' actually have dipped and main beam, so ive wired them in via one relay which supplys power from a spare fused direct-to-battery connection on my fuse box.A switch on dashboard activates the relay so they can be turned on independantly of the headlights. Another relay with NO and NC contacts then changes them between dip and main together with the main lights. Had my grill re-chromed at the same time, thats made a big improvement to the looks. |
