MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Front bearing - wires

When I corner I get a rubbing noise from the disc FNS I have deduced that the bearing is on the way out, am I right? If I am how do you get to the main nut, then the bearings? All seems different to the book ( which shows normal wheel set up)

First remove the grease cap which sits inside the end of the splined hub. Then there's an access hole in the splined hub which when correctly oriented allows removal of the split pin sideways. Then the big nut and washer can be removed and the hub and bearings will pull off easily. It used to be said if you can do this without help you may as well train as a gyno surgeon...

And if you need to replace them, someone posted this earlier this week, a source for the correct bearings:

11/MJT17 and 39/LJT25 are the bearings sold in Unipart kit GHK1924 (with oil seal & split pin). The kit is supplied by MGOC for Midget.

and here is another confirmed source for those bearings (same two part numbers):

Though the MGOC is probably the most convenient of the two.
Note that Moss and other MG parts suppliers have been supplying "similar" bearings, with different part numbers, made by other bearing makers, that are not fitting well for some folks. So these original equipment bearing part numbers are good to know to avoid unnecessary trouble.

I don't understand the Owners club numbers they are not original numbers, but what differences there are I am not sure.
The numbers are
34LJT25
and 3MJT17
How much do they cost from the owners club? if they are cheap it will be a pretty good indication that they will not be correct.

I tried alternatives to the original spec when I was rebuilding the front end of my 66 MkII, and they were way out giving me more play than the ones I took off....

I ended up getting the original spec (NOS) from a company in Crewe, they where very helpful.

I thing they where about £25 for each bearing, a bit more expensive but a perfect fit.

Pulling the hub off can be tricky on a wire wheel hub if you don't have the correct equipment. The way I do it is remove the grease cap and split pin as above. I undo the castellated nut but leave it on the stub. I then use a plug socket, place it against the castellated nut (so as not to damage the thread on the stub)and then put the spinner back on. The inside of the spinner rests against the plug socket and as you turn the spinner the hub will withdraw. Remove the castellated nut and pull the hub off.

Neil, great tip! I'll use that next time.
":o)

regarding the bearing part numbers, the one set is for brass cages, the other set of numbers is for the later resin cages (same performance).
