MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Front Camber

Hi got a question for you? i have just rebuilt the front suspension on my 70 midget and i have serious positive camber, out about two inches at the top of the wheel arch cant drive it!!. i cant set the traking up toeing in big time run out of track rod..i have fitted the fast road bushes and recon dampers is it possible the damper arms are to long?? or have i made a big error in the rebuild?

Dont worry

It is very common to obtain an inadvertent excess camber when rebuilding the front end.

I bet you have fitted the top of the kingpin the wrong way around

Just undo the top bolt, swivel the top eye round 180º and refit the bolt with that way round

Then take a sigh of relief

Yes you have made a very basic error You have installed the top trunion the wrong way round and so that throws the top suspension out. Undo it and turn it through 90 degrees and redo. Unfortunately you have now disturbed all the tracking

Brett when you have the trunnions the right way around you should find that the tracking is "near enough" to allow a drive in safety to your local tracking staion for setting up properly

We would not recommend not having it checked because it might look OK, there is likely to be some inbuilt discrepancy
