MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Front Indicators

Hello,

Currently doing the wiring on the midget (1500 rubber bumper) and having problems with the front indicators.

Rear work fine on turn signal and hazard switch but nothing on the front. Wiring diagram shows they have to be earthed but how do I earth them?

Have changed bulbs and cleaned up all connectors but still nothing!

Any help appreciated

Regards

Hi Claire where a outs in west Yorkshire are you been a while since I have messed around with the wiring on my midget indicators but will be in my garage today so will have a look at see how they are wired.

Hi Claire,

Try running a temporary seperate temp earth wire back to the battery negative terminal from the indicator back plate.

If they then work, you have an earthing problem.

If not next test for current on the green/white and green/red bullet connectors behind the front grille.

Hope that helps a bit. In 99 cases out of a 100 it's bad connections in those bullet connectors though.

Hi Claire, if its a 78 then there are two wires to the unit, one is from the switch (green at this end), the other earth (whatever colour that is). They both have connections in the engine bay at the front before they go out into the wheel arch and to the unit. They are connected here in a series of bullet connectors. Mine were poor connections generally (used Automotive digital multimeter to test) so took them appart inside the engine bay, cleaned connectors and reassembled. Then a OK.

Not sure where the earth is as there is about 25 years of dirt, grime, rubbish etc. that I havn't found time to cleared out of the engine bay yet.

Hope this helps.
