MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Front inner arches.
I'm in the process of sorting out bits of rust around the front end, nothing that serious, new front valance and a bit of work around the tray between the chassis legs (and a bit on the chassis legs that revealed it self). The other area is my O/S inner arch which is fairly rotten. My question is does this need to be replaced with metal? An odd question but modern cars only have plastic inner arches these days. I work in the world of carbon fibre too so you know where I’m going with this. I can get more than enough strength and it’ll be a lot lighter AND never rust again! What are people’s thoughts? I’m not worried about originality BTW, it’s a 1500 with out the bumpers and fibre glass 1275 wings and I’m in the process of a K series conversion. Cheers Steve |

They are not structural so can be in any material or removed altogether - as they are on many racecars. |

I've got to keep them, I think the engine bay will get a little dirty without them!! :) |

Just offered up my idea.

Make the full panel an offer it for sale!! I'm interested :-) |
Mick - trying to sort the wiring |
Mick, I did think about that, I'm not sure how I could 'conceal’ it as it would be fairly large to say the least. Trust me if I could do this size of stuff, the midget would have put F1 cars to shame by now! I may look at doing it in separate pieces and bonding it as one at a later date, watch this space..... Keeping rain and mud out of the carb and dissy will be a problem unless you seal it in nicely.

Rob, I should be ok with the carb and dizzy as I'm going K series and I have neither! :) Saying that the induction on a K could get dirty if I'm not careful. Steve |
