MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Fual Guage blowing 35amp fuse
Has anyone known a fuel guage to fail so that it causes a short and blows the 35amp fuse? My car is a '64 midget with the 2 x 35amp fuse holder. Fitted a different guage and the problem appears to be solved. Seems strange. |

I haven't heard of it, but it would be theoretically possible that the power feed could be internally short circuited inside the unit before it gets to any of the reistive components. |

Hiya Paul. Yeah it is strange. I've isolated all the other green wires to eliminate them and the only way I can make the tacho, indicators and brake lights work is by disconnecting the fuel guage! I've fitted a spare guage now and it is working with the ignition on. I've yet to reconnect the voltage stabiliser (using a 68-72 sender and guage for my alloy tank) but I know that is working fine. |

Neil I had same problem a few months ago. At a car show then when started car to go home fuse had blown - no fuel guage, indicators or brake lights. Tried all sorts then replaced fuel guage with old spare and was ok. Put the origonal guage back in and it was now working fine, very odd. Les (Mk 2 Sprite) |

Now I am puzzled Les. I'll just have to run it and see what happens. My problem must be associated with the installation of my new tank as all was fine before. Ce la vie. |
