MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Fuel filter recommendations

More misfiring because of dirt - again.
The filter is clean and clear so I'm guessing the dirt is too fine to be trapped by it. It's a cheap, universal, plastic, see through one which I've used many, many times before without problems.

A Malpassi filter king with its 10 micron filters may be the ultimate solution but what would you recommend?

I've never used a fuel filter on my Spridgets. Not found it necessary and only once had a blockage in the carb jet, which was easily cleared. (Hand over carb intake method)

Until very recently, me neither. But I've now got a rusty tank throwing out 'bits'. So until I replace it this year, I've added a filter. But I've also gone back (forward again) to my single hif44, and the debris from my tank doesn't bother that, it drops to the bottom of the fuel bowl better I think.

And if you do use a filter, and still have an su electric or electronic fuel pump, make sure you use it AFTER the pump, - carb side - . As David DuBoise explained, a clogged filter BEFORE the pump, will burn out an su pump.

Thanks Guy and Anam,
whatever it is, it's very, very fine. The tank is relatively new, well only about 25 years old 🤔 and the pieces do not appear to be rusty.
All the hose was replaced last year with R9 so that should still be ok.
The filter is right next to the carbs so well upstream from the tank and pump which is an SU.
It's only happened since switching to ethanol fuel (Esso has stopped supplying the ethanol free stuff in these wild parts) but tbh I don't think that's the cause.
I may stick the endoscope into the tank through the fuel filler to see what's occurring (if it'll reach that far).

I use one of those cheap ebay glass ones. Useful to verify fuel flow up from the pump. I clean it now and then.
Bill Bretherton

Cheers Bill, having a cleanable filter is a good idea, much better than the used filter going to landfill.

I've been meaning to buy an endoscope. Which one is petrol and oil resistant?
anamnesis

Pretty much all of them I think Anam, as long as you give them a good clean afterwards. In any case they're so cheap now they can be discarded and replaced without financial pain.
(Although that depends on how tight you are lol).

ETA: I clean mine up after it's been in the bilges of fishing boats with a bowl of warm water and Squeezy. Works okay.

Greybeard

Cheers Grey, will give that a try.

is the one I'm using. It says only that its waterproof but that link takes you to other similar ones.
