MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Fuel pump?
Hey everyone Having a problem with my 78 1500 midget that I think may be related to the fuel pump. A few months back, the fuel pump kept failing due to an electrical problem. This was fixed with a new fuse board But today had something similar happen. The car started, ran for ages and then cough/splurged and cut out. Turns but doesnt fire up, exactly the same as before. How can I tell if fuel is getting thru from the fuel pump? Many thanks |

Hi, Electric fuel pump on a 1500? Must be non standard as all 1500's had a mechanical one on the nearside of the block. To see if fuel is reaching the carbs, just take off the pipe feeding the float chambers and turn the ignition on. Fuel should come from the pipe in a steady flow. Hope this helps. Regards Steve |

you could also add a fuel filter in the engine bay which would help you see if fuel is getting that far and of course filter some muck of course the fact that fuel is making it to the filter or even to the carbs doesn't necessarily mean the fuel is getting through the carbs properly |

another thought how is the fuel pump wired up shared off fuse with coil and to ignition switch, (via connectors) (?) what about earth wire and connection - all wires and connections clean, secure and protected? |
